El Refugio is a privileged place to see bird species such as sleeping toucans, mot-mots, and black guans; treetop animals such as monkeys, coatis, olingos, sloths, frogs, snakes, and a wide variety of insects. On a typical tour, you will see 3-5 species of mammals, 5–10 species of birds, a couple of snakes or frogs, and many types of insects. Your breathtaking adventure begins with a pickup from the pier and a relaxing drive through the wonderful Costa Rican countryside on an air-conditioned transportation and recent model deluxe vehicle or mini bus.

Shuttle routes operate daily, and in some cases there are multiple departure times throughout the day. However, shuttles are by no means a public bus. 

All the vehicles used for shuttle transportation are air conditioned, well-maintained minibuses (passenger vans) driven by reliable and punctual Costa Rican bilingual professionals, who are eager to help you move safely around the country.

You can participate in the whole process, from the dish preparation to the tasting.
